It was founded in 1833 when the Treaty of Chicago was enacted. Since its inception, Chicago's economy steadily flourished to what it is today. The city has been experiencing a steady growth of population which led to various infrastructure investments. As time passes by, and as various opportunities started become available, Chicago became the center of notoriety embodied by the infamous Al Capone, by the 1920s different gangs plagued the city streets. It was however also during this time that expansions in different industries started. When Jane Byrne, the first female mayor of Chicago, was elected, the city became popular as a movie location and one of the best tourist spot of the country.



With the city retaining its status as the major hub for industry, people flock its land in search of "greener pastures," so to speak. In the year 2008 alone, Chicago was home to almost fifty million visitors both from the U.S. and from abroad. The cities major industries can be found in downtown Chicago. The city's population is currently centered in this area, and with the steady influx of people, people are now resorting to living in condominiums and apartment buildings.
